和服と着物と呉服の違いをある男性から聞かれる事がありました。
現在では同じように使われていますが語源は異なります。
下記の通りになります。
和服とは
日本（和）の服、という意味で日本の衣服という意味です。
着物のところに記載している通り、洋服と区別するためにできた言葉です。
着物とは
元々、着るもの、という意味だったが江戸時代の終わりに
西洋文化が入ってきて洋服と区別されて和服と同意語になっていきました。
ご存知、日本従来の衣服であり日本の民族衣装という捉え方もされます。
洋服と大きく違う点は
洋服は体に沿わせた曲線を組み合わせた立体裁断の組み合わせが中心であり
（洋裁）
又、使用生地は織物、編み物の両方が使われています。
和服は直線に裁断した部品を組み合わせた
（和裁）長着（着物の本体）を帯で締めるスタイルが
基本になっています。
又、使用生地は織物が中心です。
呉服とは
現在の中国の場所が三国志の魏・呉・蜀の覇権争いをしていた時の呉の国から織物が伝来した事から織物を指します。
当時はくれはとり＝（呉（クレ）+機織り（ハトリ））と言われたのが音読みになりゴフクとなりました。
2つの捉え方が有り、和服用の織物の総称、又は太物を別にしての絹織物を指します。
補足：太物＝太い木綿を主として、麻や楮・ウールのこと。
つまり、元々語源は違えども、今では着物も和服も呉服も同じように使って頂いて大丈夫です。

What is kofuku?
It refers to textiles because textiles were introduced from the Wu country during the time when Wei, Wu, and Shu were fighting for supremacy in what is now China.
At that time, it was said that Kure Hatori = (Kure (Kure) + Hatori (weaving)), but it was read as Onyomi and became Gofuku.
There are two ways to understand it: it is a general term for textiles for Japanese clothing, or it refers to silk textiles, apart from thick textiles.
Note: Taimono = mainly thick cotton, but also linen, mulberry, and wool.
In other words, although the etymology is originally different, it is now okay to use the terms kimono, Japanese clothing, and kofuku in the same way.
