This men's forehead lining(Haori lining) is made of the brand fabric Kanebo Soafuru.
It uses a tezuri pattern, which is also used for pure silk forehead lining.
Fabric dimensions: approx. 84 cm (width) X 2.6 m (length)
Material: 100% polyester
The pattern comes on the back of the haori.
About the pattern
Ryuko is a dragon (Ryu) and a tiger.Ko）.
The word “Ryuko” is also used to describe two heroes or great men who are equal in strength and ability, and a match between them is called “Ryuko Souhaku (竜虎相搏)” or “Ryuko Aiutsu (竜虎相搏つ).
The combination of dragon and tiger in art has been used since ancient China, and there is a theory that its meaning derives from a phrase in the “I Ching”: “When the dragon gazes at the clouds, clouds arise; when the tiger roars, winds arise” or “clouds follow the dragon, winds follow the tiger. It is said that during the Song dynasty (960-1279), a passage from the I Ching was illustrated and spread.
In Japan, from the Muromachi period (1336-1573) onward, warlords flaunted their power by painting screens of dragons and tigers, and Zen monks also favored the paintings. By the Edo period (1603-1867), dragon and tiger paintings had become firmly established, and many compositions with clouds and waves were painted by the Kano school and the Rimpa school. Most washable frames are pigmented, so the color of the pattern will deteriorate after repeated use and washing, and this framed lining is no exception.
